The Campaign Theatrical Review
Adam RoseIn the film, we follow Congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell), who is running unopposed for his fifth consecutive term in office. Just when Brady thinks he has the election locked up, in walks village idiot Marty Huggins (Galifianakis). What follows is a dirty smear campaign that could give any of today's politicians a run for their money.
Will Ferrell has a proven track record for when it comes to mocking politicians. Years ago, Ferrell impersonated George W. Bush to perfection. He brought that same spark to this film as it set out to make fun of Washington and its players. Everything from shady Super PACs to political sex scandals is fair game. "The Campaign" deservedly earns its R rating with its raunchy humor and extremely consistently vulgar language, so this is not a Ferrell film to bring your kids to!
The release of this film could not come at a better time; one would almost suspect them of planning it this way. Having just seen the movie three nights ago, I turned on the television this morning to find several commercials from the presidential candidates both attacking their opponent's character. This is the time of year when the campaigns will be heating up and getting dirty. If you're looking to find some humor in the humorless American political system, "The Campaign" is sure to have you laughing for an hour and a half.
