Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Pt I Staff Review

It has been a long journey to finally get here, but audiences around the world are finally at the end of the Harry Potter book series with the release of movie number seven, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 1.

The series picks up basically where the last film ended. With Albus Dumbledore out of the way, the Death Eaters and Voldemort have now taken over the Ministry of Magic, and even Muggles can feel something is wrong. They are leaving London in droves.

The film stars the usual cast of the Harry Potter series: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, and Helena Bonham-Carter. It is directed by the now longest running Harry Potter director, David Yates. Finding words to describe this film is almost hard to do without pure raw emotion building up inside my body. This film is an amazing work of art. It is mind-boggling to see how the series has ended up here after starting with a very family-oriented, children's movie, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone.

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) , Hermione (Emma Watson), and Ron(Rupert Grint) have fully grown up - both on and off the screen - for the past seven years; and the film has matured as well. Gone are the problems, such as trolls at Hogwarts or crazy ghosts in the bathroom, Things have moved into the life and death arena for our three little friends. Friends are killed and discarded so quickly in this film, it is hard to digest what is going on. While the film is light on action, it certainly makes up for it in drama and interpersonal relationships throughout the film. It has Academy Awards writing all over it.

It was rumored that John Williams was gong to return to score the two final films, but that rumor seems to have been just that. However, the score by Alexandre Desplat fits the film perfectly; it provides subtle musical cues to push the story ahead, but the music definitely takes a back seat in The Deathly Hollows, Part 1 compared to the rest of the series.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows, Part 1 is surely a spectacle to hold, and will definitely have its place in film history. Just be sure to bring a bunch of tissues when you watch this film.
