Synopsis
It all begins at a secret school in the clouds like none on earth: Sky High, the first and only high school for kids with super-human powers going through crime-fighting puberty. At Sky High, the student body are divided into “Heroes” and “Sidekicks” instead of jocks and geeks. It’s an out-ofthis-world yet completely recognizable place where cool gadgetry, rampant bravery and aweinspiring magical skills mix it up with parental battles, peer pressure and dating trouble-with explosively fun results.
This year’s class features some of the best, brightest and most powerfully gifted super-teens ever assembled. And then there’s Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano). When you’re the son of the world’s most legendary super hero parents, The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston), people expect you to live up to the family name. The problem is that Will is starting with no superpowers of his own and, worst of all, instead of joining the ranks of the “Hero” class, he finds himself relegated to being a “Sidekick.” Now he must somehow survive his freshman year while dealing with a hilariously overbearing gym coach (Bruce Campbell), a bully with super speed, and a dangerous rebel with a grudge (and the ability to shoot fire from his hands)… not to mention the usual angst, parental expectations and girl problems that accompany teenage life. But as he discovers his true strengths, he also learns that it takes loyalty and teamwork to truly become a hero!

Had enough superhero movies yet? Not so fast mere mortals. Disney puts a spin on the superhero set we have not seen yet. And yes it is original, and yes it has the father of Disney movies Kurt Russell in it, and yes kids are going to love it! Sky High is now open, time to do your homework!
So many times Disney may put together a movie that maybe in one way or another we have seen before. I mean there has been a ton of Princess movies, there has been a multitude of outcast overcoming all odds movies. And sure lately there has been a plethora of Super Hero movies. But not like this.
I was worried going to see this. Mostly because I am a huge Kurt Russell fan, and in my eyes he can do no wrong. But my main man Kurt running around in tights with a bunch of kids as under achieving heroes? This movie surprised me in more ways than one.
Sky High follows the son of Super Hero parents as he enters the fabled Sky High where he will learn and adapt his obvious genetic powers. Problem is he does not have any powers. He is labeled as a "Sidekick" along with his other sub-par superhero friends. The fun begins as bad guys infiltrate the school to use him to get to his fabled parents. Add in some high school hijinks and a kidnapping of the parents and chaos takes over the school. Who will rise to save the movie?
Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston are awesome as the crime fighting duo The Commander and Jetstream. They come across as great parents even before coming across as great heroes. Then the kids really take the load of the movie. They all do a great job finding their true power within themselves. This movie was blast. Don't go in thinking X-Men or any Marvel kind of superhero movie. Disney has simply put a great spin on fun subject. I mean a school full of superheroes where some are accepted, some are in clicks, and some are just sidekicks. And if you ever thought you were worried in gym class, you had no problems compared to these kids!
Sky High was a total surprise to me. I know it did ok in the box office, but honestly I think it flew under a lot of radar. Really clever film for anyone who loves superhero movies, and kids overall will just love the story. Great effects, some downright perfect casting, and a new spin on an old subject makes Sky High fly! --Carl Nordstrom
