Robert Rodriguez Discusses Spy Kids, Lady Gaga
6/1/2011 3:38 PM EDTEarlier this week, as part of the Texas Film Commission's 40th Anniversary celebration, the original Spy Kids was screened to the public. Before the movie began, Robert Rodriguez came out to answer some questions.
Robert let the crowd know that of all the movies he has made, Spy Kids is his favorite. In 1994, he came up with the idea of kid spies when filming Desperado with Antonio Banderas when he saw two kids wearing tuxedos. From there the general plot continued, and allowed him enough material for both the original Spy Kids and the sequels. The original film was filmed mainly in the greater Austin and San Antonio area as he wanted to keep the film close to home.
On a completely different note, Flickdirect asked him if he had responded to Lady Gaga's recent request. Robert responded "Yes, in fact I am writing her a role in the movie (Machete Kills, aka Machete 2) right now."
At the conclusion of the film, guests were treated to the first official trailer for Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, starring Jessica Alba and Joel McHale. From the trailer, the movie is obviously a reboot but looks like it will be an excellent family and action film to close out the current summer movie season with. Spy Kids 4 is scheduled to open on August 19, 2011.
