Will We See Matt Damon As Jason Bourne Again?
10/11/2012 1:47 PM EDT
Fans of the original Bourne trilogy were buoyed earlier in the summer when it was revealed that a future movie may team up stars Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner. Even Damon himself seemed to be happy with the idea; his only stipulation would be that Paul Greengrass would have to direct.
Catch the latest Bourne adventure, The Bourne Legacy, on Blu-ray this December, and countdown to it's release with the all new iPhone Movie Countdown Clock app that now includes Home Entertainment releases.
Since then, though, things seem to have changed. Talking to Movieline, the "Good Will Hunting" actor said about the possibility of reprising Jason Bourne, "There has not been any movement. I've always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don't think he's going to do it." When pressed as to why he thought Greengrass would not be interested, Damon went on, "From what I understand, The Bourne Legacy kind of relives The Bourne Ultimatum from a different perspective. What that means, because they use our actors and characters, is that whatever they said (in Legacy) is true and so we'd have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we'd do. And that makes it really tough. I don't think we can do the Dallas it-was-all-a-dream scenario. I don't think the audience would go for that after they paid money to see a movie."
It is well documented that both Damon and Greengrass don't have that harmonious relationship with Legacy director Tony Gilroy who was screenwriter on the previous movies and so maybe that is where problems are.
Legacy made a modest return in comparison to the original trilogy and only last month Universal Pictures chief executive Steve Burke confirmed that a sequel to it would be forth coming.
