The Zombie Diaries is  a 2006 British independent horror film written, produced and directed by Kevin Gatesm takes place in the early part of the 21st Century. An unknown virus began spreading among the populous. Within weeks it had engulfed the entire planet, from the smallest rural communities to the greatest cities. Upon the death of its host, the virus would reanimate the corpse until it was no longer able to support itself. Soon, the planet was infested with a new threat - the undead. So begins our journey into the dystopian world of The Zombie Diaries.

I set out to write this review only about this particular film, but I can't help comparing it to George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead.

You see, "Diary of the Dead" never had me felling like I was actually watching a documentary. Yes, I know, zombies don't exist, therefore a documentary is a far off idea to begin with, but that's where this film differs.

It does indeed feel like a real documentary.  I tend to enjoy the apocalyptic scenarios and this falls nicely into that category.  The "story", or in better terms the outline of this film is a group of film makers/friends attempting to document a virus outbreak.

My reviews are always short and to the point and this one won't be any different; let me give you the skinny. The movie is well thought out, well shot, and believe it or not it has solid acting with very good specials effects to boot! I'm a big fan of "Undead" (insert link here to that review, did I do one for that?) and this movie is also to us Americans, a foreign film.

These film makers are clever when it comes to stretching the story and keeping you entertained at the same time. The plot is evident but not in your face.  The score is very mild yet it really does set the tone well.  Prepare to be creeped out by your first real encounter with the zombies.  I literally got chills.   The effects may not be high budget, but at least they don't resolve to black mascara to make up their dead. Social issues are mildly touched upon.

The movie stays on target and is very entertaining in the horror/zombie niche, but that is of course a matter of opinion.  I will definitely look for more productions from this crew!
