Joss Whedon Given the Greenlight for S.H.I.E.L.D. Series on ABC
ABC has given the greenlight for a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D, a live-action series that will be created by Joss Whedon, Marvel TV and ABC Studios. The show is based on the organization from the Marvel comic book universe most recently portrayed in "The Avengers". S.H.I.E.L.D stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

The show has been in development for some time. Disney CEO Bob Iger had announced earlier this month that they had signed a deal with Whedon for film and TV.  Production will begin immediately.

The show will be written by Whedon, along with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. He will also be directing the pilot.  It is said that Marvel also has other series in the works, including a Hulk series.
