Comedian Gallagher Dead at 76

Gallagher, the watermelon-smashing stand-up comic, has died from organ failure. He was 76.

The comic, whose full name was Leo Anthony Gallagher Jr., had suffered multiple heart attacks and had been in ill health.

Beginning his career in the 1960s as a road manager for musical comic Jim Stafford, Gallagher made his first TV appearance in 1975 on ABC's The Jim Stafford Show. He went on to appear on many specials, tv shows, and even prime appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He continued to do specials through 2000.

Gallagher was born July 24, 1946, in Fort Bragg, NC. He is survived by two children.
