The Verdict Is In! Johnny Depp Wins In Defamation Case Against Amber Heard

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had their day in court and the Jury on the defamation lawsuit Depp brought against Heard decided to side with Depp and award him $15 million in damages.

For months the public has been obsessed with the Depp/Heard Trial, with fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor lining up outside a Virginia courthouse to obtain one of the few coveted seats inside the room or to catch a glimpse of Depp entering or leaving the premises. Depp was out of the country when the verdict was read but he supposedly watch the proceedings on television.

Depp sued Heard after an Op-Ed piece she penned appeared in The Washington Post back in December of 2018.  While she never mentions Depp by name, there were enough pieces to the puzzle to put two and two together and see she was accusing her ex-husband of domestic violence.

In 2019, Depp filed a defamation of character lawsuit against Heard, claiming her accusations "devastated" his career which was already on a downswing.  In 2020 Heard countersued Depp for $100 million and, while the jury leaned in Depp's favor, they did award Heard $2 million.

Throughout the trial, there were claims of mental and physical abuse and drug usage from both sides.  Character witnesses claimed Heard was notorious for hitting on her co-stars, while Depp's former flames took the witness stand stating that, while Depp's temper is well known, He was never physically violent towards them.

The Jury took less than three days to deliberate.  There is no word at this time whether or not Heard will appeal the verdict.
