Project X Staff Review

Project X had me thinking just one thing when I left the theater; ìWow, where were those parties in high school, or even collegeî. At first I thought this was going to be another one of those movies that over glorifies the high school experience. To my delight, it was just that in an awesome and exciting way. Make no mistake, this film is geared towards teenagers and young adults, which may make me biased.
The movie employs a similar style to Cloverfield in that itís seen in the first-person through the eyes of a camcorder. While in some movies this gets annoying and can even be headache inducing, in Project X, however, this style is a perfect fit. The movie focuses on Thomas, an awkward, unpopular, beyond average teen looking to celebrate his 17th birthday with his parents out of town. Thomasís two awkward, unpopular, beyond average best friends take it upon themselves to throw the craziest party and invite everyone in a 20 mile radius. What ensues from here is sheer chaos and hilarity. Since the movie is just 88 minutes, I wont reveal anymore of the story.
What makes Project X so unique is how it lets you step into the mind of a teenager and allows you to see the world through their eyes. One thing that has me concerned about this movie going forward is its glorification of teenage sex, drug use, and alcohol consumption. Being that this movie is seen entirely from a teenagerís point of view and intended for teens as an audience, there are sure to be moviegoers out there who may try and imitate the new popular movie. With that being said, this is a movie and viewers need to be responsible. I didnít go base jumping after seeing The Dark Knight, and I definitely didnít pop ecstasy after this one.
While you would think it was obvious from the previews, this movie is NOT FOR CHILDREN. To my amusement a family with young children was sitting right in front of me. Thirty seconds and forty F-Bombs into the movie they were gone. I would recommend this short, light-hearted film to anyone not offended by tits and excessive cursing. If youíre looking for a fun and exciting night at the movies, round up your friends and catch this one.
