Heathers (1989)

At Westerburg High, Veronica Sawyer is part of the most powerful clique in school, a group of popular girls all named Heather who rule the halls through fear, image, and cruelty. As Veronica grows tired of their social games and the damage they cause, she becomes drawn to Jason “J.D.” Dean, a mysterious outsider whose rebellious attitude seems like the perfect escape from the toxic world she has been trying to survive.

What begins as revenge against the school’s social hierarchy quickly turns into something far darker, as J.D.’s violent worldview pushes Veronica into a series of staged suicides, murders, and escalating chaos. Directed by Michael Lehmann and written by Daniel Waters, Heathers became a defining cult dark comedy of the 1980s, using sharp satire, teen angst, and black humor to tear apart the glossy high school movie formula.
